At Basingstoke Security Keyholders, part of the local Property Security Group family of security companies, we believe that every business has a responsibility to reduce its environmental impact. As a small, family-owned company, at the forefront of protecting local businesses and organisations, we understand that meaningful environmental progress does not happen overnight, but through a series of practical, consistent improvements.
Our goal is simple: to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations while continuing to provide reliable scaffolding alarms, construction site security systems, and remote monitoring solutions to our customers across the UK.
While we are at the beginning of our sustainability journey, we are committed to making responsible choices that benefit both our customers and the environment.
Investing in More Sustainable Security Solutions
One of the most significant steps we have taken is increasing the use of solar-powered security technology throughout our product range.
Where suitable, we are replacing battery-powered security camera systems with solar-powered alternatives. These systems harness renewable energy to reduce ongoing power consumption while maintaining the high levels of protection our customers expect for scaffolding, construction sites, vacant properties, and temporary works.
By investing in solar-powered security solutions, we aim to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and support more sustainable site security practices.
Reducing Vehicle Emissions
Transportation is an important part of our business, allowing us to install, maintain, and support security systems for customers throughout the region.
We seek to minimise journeys by undertaking remote monitoring and diagnostics. When a journey is inevitable, we use AI to plan our routes to minimise journey times, including avoid traffic jams and hold ups.
Recognising the environmental impact associated with vehicle use, we have already taken steps to reduce emissions across our fleet. We have moved away from diesel vehicles and introduced hybrid vehicles as part of our transition towards lower-emission transport.
As electric vehicle technology becomes increasingly practical for our operational requirements and service coverage areas, we will continue evaluating opportunities to introduce electric vehicles into our fleet so have started discussions with our local vehicle dealership about our option going forward.
Practical Progress, Not Empty Promises
As a business employing fewer than ten people, we are realistic about the challenges involved in achieving significant environmental milestones. Large organisations often have greater resources available for sustainability programmes and carbon reduction projects, whereas smaller businesses must balance environmental ambitions with operational realities.
However, we firmly believe that our size should never be an excuse for inaction.
Every member of our team shares a commitment to reducing waste, improving efficiency, and identifying opportunities to minimise our environmental impact wherever possible.
Rather than making exaggerated claims, we prefer to focus on achievable improvements that deliver genuine environmental benefits over the long term.
Towards Future Environmental Accreditation
We view sustainability as an ongoing journey rather than a destination.
As we continue to develop our environmental practices, we will explore recognised environmental standards, carbon reduction initiatives, and accreditation schemes that align with the size and nature of our business.
While we are not yet carbon neutral, our long-term objective is to continually reduce emissions and improve sustainability throughout our operations, products, and services.
To help us on our journey, we encourage all employees to contribute ideas that reduce waste, improve efficiency and support our environmental objectives. We have also started a conversation with our principal equipment supplier who already have an enviable track record from which we can learn.
Supporting Sustainable Construction Site Security
The construction and scaffolding sectors continue to evolve, with sustainability becoming an increasingly important consideration for contractors, developers, and site managers.
By investing in solar-powered security systems, lower-emission transport, and responsible business practices, Basingstoke Security Keyholders aims to contribute positively to these wider industry goals while providing effective security solutions that protect people, property, and projects.
Recycling
We endeavour to recycle as much as we can and have access to a dedicated recycling skip we share iwth other businesses.
We aim to minimise electronic waste by reusing equipment where appropriate and ensuring batteries, electronic devices and packaging materials are disposed of through approved recycling channels.
Environmental Objectives
During the next 12 months we will:
-
Continue increasing the deployment of solar-powered security systems where suitable.
-
Reduce paper consumption through digital reporting and administration.
-
Responsibly recycle batteries, electronic equipment and packaging materials.
-
Monitor vehicle fuel consumption and identify opportunities to reduce emissions.
-
Review sustainability opportunities within our supply chain.
Our Promise
We may be a small family-run business, but our commitment is significant.
We will continue to review our operations, invest in more sustainable technologies, and seek practical ways to reduce our environmental impact year after year.
Every improvement matters, and every step moves us closer to a more sustainable future.
This policy will be reviewed annually every September (last reviewed September 2026) by company management to assess progress and identify further opportunities for improvement.
